Build cube by cube. Start at any size. Buy more cubes and more add-ons later as your needs change.

Adapt to any obstacle. Radiators. Floor vents. Light switches. Artwork. Anything you need to work around, it's no problem.

Benefit from granular control over more than just the shape and configuration. Add doors, drawers, adjustable shelves, and real wood backings. YOU control the look AND function.

Enjoy the longevity and quality of solid wood + cabinet grade hardware. 30 years from now, they will retain all their form and function. Even if you disassemble and reassemble them many times.

These four sizes are the building blocks you can arrange into your dream configuration.

They're sure to fit most anything you'd want to put inside. The slot on the sides allow you to easily connect the cubes together.

When you connect them, you can leave creative spaces between the boxes. This gives you more bang for your buck and lets you create cubbies of any size. More on that below!

See how you can dramatically change one general shape?

Keep the ugly cables hidden away, your tv remotes in the drawers, and subdivide the boxes into smaller shelves for small items!

These doors have premium door hinges. What does that mean?

The doors do NOT sag. They hold the door firmly closed. They have fine tuning adjustment points to make sure the door sits perfectly in the middle of the frame.

They have a push-to-open mechanism, so there are no handles or knobs for a super clean look. But the wood is real, so if you're handy and want to drill in some knobs/handles/pulls of your own, it's easy to do.

Specs: Doors reduce the cube depth by 3/4". They can be mounted to open either direction.

Pro-tip: Doors are a great base for any shelving layout. You can put the bigger and less frequently used items inside, freeing space in the more visible and accessible spots for the things you love and use the most.

They can upgrade the look from "just shelves" to "a really nice piece of furniture".

Drawers also use premium hardware!

They are what cabinet makers call "full-extension". Few things are more annoying than a drawer that either only opens halfway, or falls out when it's pulled out too far. No more digging around in the back!

A "soft-close" mechanism means you can try to slam them shut, but they will gently close themselves. No unruly banging! Like the doors, it's also push-to-open for a clean aesthetic, but the solid wood allows you to add your own handle if you want.

We're providing quality drawer hardware on par with an upscale kitchen remodel.

Specs: Drawers are 5" tall and 11.5" deep. In the Small/Tall they are 11" wide. In the Large/Wide they are 17.5" wide.

Pro-tip: Drawers really amplify the form and function of larger cubes. A tall cube can work with three drawers, making it really handy for hobby spaces that tend to have a lot of smaller items that need organizing.

The cubes feature multiple holes for small metal pegs that pop in to support interior sub-shelves. Easy to adjust or move from cube to cube.

Specs: Shelves are 3/4" thick and can be adjusted in increments of 1 1/4" inches.

Pro-tip: The shelves for the Small and Tall cubes are the same size, so you can move them back and forth as necessary (the same is true for the Wide and Large cubes).

Real wood backing is great for those of you who want to have a cube visible from all sides. The 1/4 inch wood backing offers a legitimate and attractive option that matches the aesthetic. No ugly cardboard backing!

Specs: Backing reduces the interior depth from 15.4 inches to 14.6 inches.

Pro-Tip: For homes that have large open spaces that might be a little bit too open, you can utilize your shelves with backing and make a really sweet room divider.

Two different colors finishes were chosen to pair beautifully with the solid wood grain as well as your other furniture and fixtures.

For the folks that own our Jasper Table (as well as future owners... wink wink), we're using the same type of wood and the same stains, so you know they'll match.

The Natural finish (just a clear coat, no color added) shows off the true color and character of wood.

The Dark Walnut finish offers a deep brown shade that will coordinate with other wood tones in your home, while also being neutral enough to match any aesthetic. Almost black, but not quite.

The Jasper Modular Shelving configurator is the interactive drag-and-drop tool that allows you to create any potential layout for your shelves.

Take it for a spin before the pledge manager to create your dream layout. Add, move, and connect all four cube sizes, plus the add-ons, so you don't have to rely on sketches and can see your exact dimensions and design.

Building Tips: When configuring your shelves, we recommend using a little common sense. If it looks like it will tip over, then it probably will. Attaching one shelf by just its side or top is normally ok, but don't start chaining several shelves together in this fashion.

In general, you can only have one shelf in a row that is not supported from underneath.

This is the maximum span without adding shelves under the middle shelf for support.

Modular systems only work if they can be easily assembled, re-arranged with new shelves, and unassembled.

Considerate design is matched with solid wood and durable hardware to ensure that assembly is both hassle-free AND repeatable. Should you move homes, you'll be able to reconfigure them to fit perfectly in a new spot without worrying if the shelves will be withstand re-assembly.

To assemble an individual cube: all you need are the four sides to the cube, the eight included bolts, and a screwdriver (preferably of the electric variety). All the bolts go into metal threaded inserts. There is no way to put them in the wrong spot.

The shelves must overlap by at least 1.5 inches to be bolted together.

To connect multiple cubes to one another: slide two cubes next to each other, match up the slots, run the coupling bolt through the slots, and tighten them together with the provided hex key.

The bolts used to secure boxes to each other.

As the years go by, you might find you want to change your layout. When that happens, you'll find the Jasper Shelves much more flexible that you first realized.

The top of the Tall is the same as the top of the Small. Likewise, the Large and Wide share the same top piece. The side pieces are similar. This means that if you have a Large and a Small, you could later take them apart and reconfigure them to make a Tall and a Wide.

The add-ons are also inter-compatible. The same drawer will work in a Small or a Tall. The same shelf will work in a Wide or a Large. The same door works on a Tall or a Wide. Your order today does not lock-in what you can do in the future.

Bolting the boxes together removes unsightly misalignment that can happen if the boxes just sit next to each other. It also adds stability.

Are they strong and stable?

Yes. We have stood on them. Please don't though. Exercise some common sense. But yes, they are plenty strong. We know Magic cards can be really heavy, but you should have no qualms about filling the shelves up with them. How stable they are after stacking them up depends a little on the configuration, but you should be fine with anything reasonable.

Can they attach to the wall for added safety?

Yes. They have a safety tether to stop them from tipping over if a child tries to climb them. If your cubes go above 5 feet tall or you have children, then we'd 100% recommend solidifying their position.

Can they bolt to the wall for a "floating" layout?

Our official answer is no. They don't have any mounting point to be hung on the wall. We just can't offer an official hanging solution because everyone's situation is so different and they would need to be mounted to a stud as they are heavier than you might think (solid wood).

Jasper Shelves were created with the goal of finding the perfect middle ground between cheap big-box particle board shelves and expensive built-ins.

For us, it's a simple equation: Premium Quality + Value = Jasper Modular Shelves.

If you're looking for an analogy, like a steak is more expensive than a hot dog, Jasper Shelves are more expensive than cheap shelves from Big Box stores. Hot dogs can be delicious, but if you choose to spend the money on the steak (Jasper Shelves) then you will be getting something especially great for the extra money.

We're talking about real solid wood, premium hardware, superb construction. That explains why the shelves cost more, and translates into exponentially real value by producing something much more special for your home and needs...

Values like: Strength for higher weight capacity. Longer lasting (a lot longer). Ability to be reassembled. Much more resistant to dings and dents.

You're going to feel like you got high-dollar custom built-in cabinets... but cabinets that are fully modular and can move to wherever you want to put them from room-to-room or home-to-home.

We plan to keep selling these shelves for years to come, so you will be able to expand them later.

It may sound like a platitude to say these shelves are for everyone, but they really are.

Whether you're looking for great shelves to put books, pictures, photographs, or board games; whether you need shelves in your living room, bedroom, office, or children's room, the Jasper Modular Shelves will work for you and can easily be reconfigured and repurposed to fit your life.

The best part is that you'll never feel locked in to a specific configuration as the modularity allows you to easily add, replace, or remove any shelves that you want!

Here is an example of staggered small and wide cubes to make usable spaces in-between (and work around light switches).
They're not just shelves, they're also a side table.

These shelves will work for pretty much anyone, but a big focus for these shelves is how they work for board gamers.

If you are familar with KALLAX shelves, you will find that the "Small" Jasper shelves have the exact same interior dimensions as the KALLAX cubbies.

They're great for gamers because:

  • It's easy to add more cubes if you "accidentally" buy more games later
  • If you move, you will be able to reconfigure them to fit perfectly in a spot in your new home
  • You can configure them to hold small box games and big box games. Yes, Tichu, Ticket to Ride, and Twilight Imperium can all find their perfect spot.

Small Games - You can arrange individual shelves so that there is a cozy gap between them just for small games. Or, use the adjustable shelves add-ons.

Large Games - Yes. Gloomhaven fits! Vertically in the Large or Tall. Horizontally in the Large or Wide. Really big games like Mechs vs Minons are too big even for the large shelf but you can use the modular system to make even bigger spaces between individual shelves.

If you're feeling curious, play around with the shelving configurator and see what we mean.

Large boxes, small boxes, whatever you want!

All our Pilot Program Customers paid full price for their shelves and were not incentivized in any way other than simply getting the shelves early and a big thank you for the commitment and helpful feedback. Here's what they had to say:

Charlie B. assembling his shelves!

Maximize your space and budget and configure your shelves with different cube sizes to add space between individual cubes.

For example, you could create a 9x7 wall of small cubes for around $3,300 or you could cover the same amount of space with wide cubes and save over a grand!

Notice the small sections between the cubes where small games fit perfectly. The Exit games and Oink games finally have a good place to rest.

We recognize this might be frustrating to many of our international fans, but for a new product like this, we want to personally handle shipping from our HQ, rather than with overseas partners. This allows us to personally verify the quality and address any potential problems in person. We want to assure your shelves arrive exactly how you expect. We want to live up to our promises, and part of that is limiting the scope of the project.

Some words from our founder, Chad DeShon:

Six and a half years ago I founded BoardGameTables.com, and since then we've sold thousands of board game tables. Now we're taking everything we've learned and applying that to making quality shelves.

Hard learned experience has taught us a great deal about the complexities of furniture production - from product development, to material sourcing, supply chain logistics, manufacturing, fulfillment, and customer service.

We sold our first furniture 6½ years ago. Partnering with master woodworkers Russ & Kyle to build custom made-to-order board game tables. True high end furniture.

The Duchess was introduced to allow board game tables to be more accessible. It was our first Kickstarter AND the first board game table (by anyone) under $1,000.

Let's be honest, fulfilling this Kickstarter was rough. We had problems with tables being damaged during shipping and had to redesign our packaging. But we made it right. Everyone got what they ordered, exactly as we promised.

We're happy to say that even with these complications, the vast majority of backers gave us very positive reviews and comments. Thankfully, the ten Kickstarters we've run since have gone much smoother.

The Jasper Table was a new table based on everything we learned from the Duchess.

It's made in the wood shop managed by Russ and Kyle,  in the same place our custom-built game tables are made. It's still a huge seller today.

The Jasper Table is, at its core, is much like these shelves. Made from solid Malaysian Oak. Expertly designed. Easy to assemble. Made to be a beautiful home centerpiece.

Passionate customers were asking (some lovingly demanding) for shelves to store their games, but we've always said we have no interest in selling something unless it's special. So around this time we started sketching.

The first real nugget of the shelves were the slots that allow you to bolt multiple cubes together and make a shelf any size you want.

Over the next two years of prototyping, we created all the different sizes and their corresponding add-ons. Along the way we dialed in all the particulars that you don't think about. What size bolts do we need? Exactly how thick do the boards need to be? How wide should the slots be?

This was when detailed discussions with the factory began and we started getting samples for the pilot run. Russ and Kyle continued tweaking the prototypes in preparation for the mass production that will be done at the factory in Vietnam (which also sources the raw wood for our Jasper Tables).

So, with the design pretty much final, a pilot run was initiated to really test things. Did other people find them as easy to assemble as we do? Did we notice parts that are more likely to have manufacturing errors? Are they really incredibly useful and beautiful? Did real customers agree? How could we best explain all these options to people so that they could figure out what configuration they need?

It isn't enough to say that we love them and we're sure customers will too. We needed to prove it. Building 150 shelves would expose more potential problems than building 5. Luckily we had several volunteers who opted in to be our shelving guinea pigs.

The reviews started to come in and they were great. That said, we also learned about many small things that we needed to improve. For example, the slot for the backing would be increased by 1mm to make assembly easier, the head on the main assembly bolts needed to be bigger, and we needed to add a quality control step to make sure extra wood didn't splinter when routing the slots. All small things, but nonetheless, the details we needed from a pilot run to iron out issues before mass production.

In February, shelves will start arriving to our warehouse where we will personally do some final quality control before shipping. We will be packing orders for shipping and making sure they are properly protected for that bumpy ride in the UPS truck.
